Use these environmentally and skin-friendly laundry tips for underwear

The ingredients found in traditional laundry detergents pose significant challenges not only to the health of our skin but also to our environment. However, there are practices that can make our laundry routine more environmentally friendly and our skin will also be happy about the final results!

As we’ve written in our previous blog post, each piece of ÊTRE women’s and men’s underwear contains 46% bamboo, 46% organic cotton and 8% elastane. By selecting organic materials and undergoing extensive testing, we’ve successfully focused on two important objectives. Firstly, to take responsibility for the future of the Earth, and secondly, to provide a healthy alternative for those seeking comfortable and minimalistic underwear.

Think about how our underwear is an essential part of our wardrobe, in direct contact with our skin. Therefore, it matters significantly what kind of detergent residues are present on the textiles. These substances, coming into direct contact with our skin, can easily enter our bloodstream, potentially triggering allergic reactions.

Choose your laundry detergent consciously

Who wouldn’t love the diverse range of heavenly scented fabric softeners or detergents? However, when checking the shelves of shops, it’s essential not only to listen to our senses but also to consciously consider what would be the best possible choice!

Traditional, colorful and scented products may contain chemicals such as phosphates, bleaches, and dyes, which, when retained in clothes, can cause skin irritation. When flushed down the drain, these chemicals can also harm our planet.

So, what alternative should one consider switching to? There is, of course, no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It's important for everyone to explore environmentally and skin-friendly options based on their individual needs, wardrobe, and budget.

Try washing soda and (liquid) soap nuts

As a starting point, it’s a wonderful idea to start using washing soda and replace half of the laundry detergent with it! It’s composed of limestone and salty water, and there are no harmful by-products during its production.

Once we’re everyday users of washing soda, the next fantastic step could be soap nuts or their liquid version.

Did you know that soap nuts have been used for cleaning for centuries? Plus, one of the most reassuring thoughts is that, since we’re talking about a fruit, it completely decomposes.

Feel the difference

At ÊTRE, we are also committed to exploring environmentally and skin-friendly laundry detergent alternatives. For us, products based on soap nuts are favorites, and we wholeheartedly recommend them to you, too!

ÊTRE underwear is delicately soft and excellently breathable, and these qualities can be preserved even more effectively when our laundry routine reflects consciousness. You can feel the difference, even while wearing, in whether you’ve used traditional or eco-friendly laundry detergent. Experience for yourself how you can enhance your comfort and the delicacy of the touch felt by your skin!

Hang your laundry in the sunshine, in the fresh air

You can do a lot for the cleanliness of your clothes by air-drying them in the sun. Be cautious about exposing dark, colored pieces to sunlight, as it may fade deeper shades, but you can confidently hang light and white textiles in sunny spots! This also disinfects them and destroys any bacteria present.

Surely you know the incomparable scent and feel of towels, bed linens, and underwear dried in the sun! We couldn’t capture such a fragrance in a perfume bottle... Only nature can do that.

Pay attention to maintenance

To remove limescale generated in the washing machine and to destroy pathogens, you can use eco-friendly products or even vinegar! After the washing program is completed, leave the machine and detergent dispenser open to prevent the formation of mold!

With these small considerations and the selection of the right detergent, we have already done a lot for our own well-being and the health of the Earth.
